The Phi Phi Islands are beautiful to see in pictures, but even better to see in person! They’re located between the island of Phuket and the west coast of Strait of Malacca on the mainland of Thailand. The islands became famous when used as a location of a film in the year 2000 called ‘The Beach’. Not long after, in 2004 one of the islands was hit by a Tsunami, but since it has been rebuilt and restored it is even better than ever to visit.
How to Get There?
You can reach the islands via boat, but the best way to see them is to take a guided tour boat which are plentiful along the pier of Phuket. There are no hotels or suchlike on the Phi Phi Islands, but you can spend the night camping there with certain tour companies. It’s best to decide which one to use before you get there to make the most of it. It’s quite the experience to spend the night under the stars there.
Best Time to Visit?
There are 2 main seasons around the area of the Phi Phi Islands, the dry and wet season. Head for the dry season which is between December and April, this will give you the best chance to check out everything without interruption. The weather goes between 20-35 but with all the water activities (more detail below) It is easy to get some relief if the sun gets too much for you.
What is there to do there?
You’ll find pretty much what you would expect with any kind of luxury beach destination, you can go snorkelling or scuba diving in the crystal clear waters and see some great underwater sights! There are places you can go to get scuba lessons so you can go deeper and get closer to the underwater nature, but never fear if you’ve never been before, they will teach even complete beginners.
If you don’t fancy heading underwater, there are classes to teach you surfing and kite surfing to name a couple, you can also rent jet skis and just generally have a great time! As we touched on above, the most popular thing to do and we recommend this for everyone, find a tour boat that will take you to all the islands for some spectacular views. They’re very reasonably priced and you will not regret it!
