How to Get to the Leobo Private Reserve in Waterberg, SA.
The Leobo Private Reserve is far from our hectic modern lives, hidden in its own secluded world; but despite its remote location getting there is surprisingly easy!
After you have landed at the Tambo International Airport the Reserve arranges all your transport from the airport for you, with several options being available to you. Tambo International Airport is the main sub Saharan hub for international travel, so it’s easy to reach from all over the world; including Europe and the States.
The Leobo Private Reserve can make arrangements for you to take a one hour helicopter ride to your accommodation giving you the chance to get some great photographs and experience panoramic views of the landscape as you travel to the reserve.
Alternatively you can choose to be driven by road to the Reserve, which will take you approximately 3 to 4 hours. You’ll still enjoy the scenery, and although some of the roads may be a little bumpy, it will be a fun safari experience in itself to start your adventures at the Leobo Reserve in Waterberg.
Lastly, if you would like to charter a light plane, you can actually fly to the exclusive reserve from the International Airport and land on the small bush airstrip at this remarkable spot!
What’s the best time of year to visit the Leobo Private Reserve?
If you want to have the best safari experience possible the best months to visit the reserve are between mid May and late September while temperatures are the most comfortable and the bush isn’t too dry.
The hottest times of year, between November and mid March, can be extremely dry and the temperatures can soar to well over 30 Degrees Celsius!
It should be remembered though that the African climate is always a little hard to predict, although when it does rain it will usually rain in the evenings so your days should still be clear.
During the winter months which last from June until August the temperatures get quite cold in the day times and are very cold in the nights and early mornings. This is the time of year to avoid visiting the Reserve.
What is there to do there?
There’s something for everyone in this exclusive safari lodge, from exciting activities such as skydiving and quad biking for the thrill seekers, guided nature walks for children and families and everything in between! One of the things that makes this reserve so special is that you’ll always be there with only your group, so you can tailor each day to your exact wishes.
Children of all ages are very welcome at the Leobo Private Reserve and there is loads of fun stuff for them to get involved in during their stay. The staff run guided nature walks where the kids can learn about the animals and plants that make up the wilderness. Children can also play fancy dress, hide and seek and swim in natural pools! The observatory also has a fully fitted nursery, with changing facilities, ensuite and even a room for a nanny!

One of the recently introduced activities at the reserve is the tandem paragliding flights, powered by a small motor. It will certainly get your adrenaline flowing but there’s nothing to worry about since you’ll be with a trained pilot at all times while you fly over the bush and enjoy an air borne safari tour!
