The Hawaii Spitting Cave is a little known tourist attraction on the paradise island of Oahu in the Pacific Ocean. The tropical island is a fantastic holiday destination that attracts tourists from all over the world but many visitors have never heard of the Spitting Cave!
The Spitting Cave is a distinctive cliff jumping and beauty spot where ocean water that rushes into the caves is ‘spat’ back out, sometimes sending an amazing cascade of water as high as 20 feet into the air. As the water is thrown back out of the cave, you can often see a rainbow form in the air above the sea.
Although the Spitting Cave is popular with cliff jumpers, it’s also a great spot to snap some idyllic pictures of the sun setting in the evening or just to relax in the sunshine during the day. In the surrounding areas, on the island of Oahu, there’s a lot to see and do as well as numerous world-class restaurants and hotels to help make your visit absolutely unforgettable.
How Do You Get To The Spitting Cave?
The Spitting Cave is located on the island of Oahu in the American state of Hawaii. The best way to get to the island in the Central Pacific is to fly directly to the Daniel K. Inouye International Airport (HNL), often referred to simply as Honolulu International Airport. Once you arrive at the Daniel K. Inouye International Airport, the main airport in Oahu, you can travel onwards by taxi to your accommodation in the city.
The Spitting Cave sits on the very Southeastern tip of Oahu at 7 Lumahai Street, Honolulu. Reaching the Spitting Cave can be a little tricky because it’s tucked away behind a quiet residential neighborhood with no obvious signs to guide you.
The easiest way to find your way to the Spitting Cave is to jump in a taxi and ask the driver to show you exactly how to access the small alleyway that leads to the Spitting Cave. After you’ve found the alley you just follow it down behind the houses towards the ocean and you’ll see the cliffs and the Spitting Cave right in front of you in a matter of moments.
Alternatively, you can catch a local bus and get off at the Hanauma Bay bus stop. From there, you simply walk down to 7 Lumahai Street and look for the alleyway that leads down to the Spitting Cave.
What Is The Best Time To Visit The Spitting Cave?
The best time to visit Oahu is between mid-March and September. There is much less rain than the rest of the year and the temperatures are pleasantly hot and ideal for beach fun, swimming and exploring the island. Daytime temperatures at this time of year range from 23 to 30 Degrees Celsius, with temperatures dipping to around 10 or 15 Degrees at night.
If you’re visiting the Spitting Cave to take some photos then it’s best to go at sunset or dawn. On the other hand, if you’re going to cliff jump or just to enjoy the ocean scenery then you can visit at any time of the day.
